Oregon State sophomore Bella Geist was named the Pac-12 Conference Goaltender of the Week on Tuesday for her outstanding performances in victories over Fresno State and San Francisco this past weekend. The award is for games played between Aug. 24-30.
A second-year starter from Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukie, Geist had eight total saves and allowed just one goal as the Beavers stretched their winning streak to three games in a row by defeating Fresno State 3-0 and San Francisco 2-1 in overtime at Lorenz Field.
Geist is the first Beaver to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors since Jenna Richardson was cited on Sept. 25, 2012. She is the first OSU goalie to be earn conference honors since Sammy Jo Prudhomme on Sept. 4, 2012; the only other OSU keeper to earn Player of the Week honors is Colleen Boyd, selected on Oct. 19, 2010.
She had three saves against Fresno State and five against San Francisco, including three in the overtime period. She now has 140 career saves in only 21 games and ranks eighth on OSU's career list. She needs just six more saves to pass Kristen Dulacki for seventh place; Dulacki had 145 stops from 1994-97.
Geist also recorded her fourth career solo shutout by blanking Fresno State. Her next solo shutout will tie her with Elizabeth Pease (1997-2000) for eighth all-time at OSU.
The Beavers shoot for their fourth straight victory at 4:30 p.m. PT Friday against the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. They have not started a season 4-0 since 2012, when they defeated UAB, Portland, Portland State and Cal State-Fullerton in succession.
They conclude their weekend road trip on Sunday with a 5 p.m. PT game against the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.
