Beavs Sweep UC Irvine on Day 2 of Stanford Invite

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The No. 17 Oregon State men's rowing team finished off the Stanford Invitational with a three-boat sweep of UC Irvine Sunday morning as a final tune up for the next weekend's Pac-12 Challenge.
“I'm really happy with how things went this morning,” interim head coach Gabe Winkler said. “It was a really great weekend. We swept another team for the fourth time this season which is awesome. Each boat got out and went full bore down the course and put down pretty good times.”
This is all gearing up for next weekend which is huge when we'll race Stanford and Wisconsin. Those races next week are going to be very tight all around and will be very exciting.”
Oregon State's Varsity 8 got after it in the first race of the day establishing a common theme as the Beavers dominated the Anteaters throughout. OSU's V8 consisting of Bobby Vernazza, Josh West, Henry Prosser, Aidan Daly-Jensen, Clark Fisher, Kyle Wilkins, Spencer Smith, Martin Forde and coxed by Ben Augeri finished 11-seconds ahead with a time of 5-minutes, 53.5-seconds to UCI's 6:04.7.
The Beavers' Junior Varsity 8, with a crew of Eric Sumner (coxswain), Grant Van Kampen, Tyler MacDonald, Collin Griffitts, Taylor Heen, Nathan Smith, Michael Jagielski, Henry Stout and Alec Martin, recorded an open water defeat of the Anteaters' entry with a time of 6:05.7 to 6:34.1.
OSU's Freshman 8, crewed by Baxter Call, Austin Erickson, Jesse Maritz, Sasha Kosek, Alec Dulude, Conrad Forde, Callum Davies and Neall Koetje and coxed by Ercoli Crugnale, closed out the Beavers' trip with a third convincing victory 6:08.5 to 6:29.7.
The Beavers return to racing next weekend, April 18-19 for the Pac-12 Challenge once again at Redwood Shores where they'll face some of the toughest crews in the country.
