
Pickerell Leads Beavers In Fall's Final Event

KONA, Hawai'i. – Ashlee Pickerell fired a 1-over 74 for the third consecutive round at the Pac-12 Preview to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in their final tournament of the fall season on Tuesday.
Oregon State finished in eighth place in a field that featured seven ranked teams, shooting a 41-over 304-311-302--917 at the par-73, 6,372-yard Nanea Golf Club. The Beavers took state bragging rights after finishing ahead of No. 35 Oregon, which finished in ninth place with a 44-over 309-311-300--920.
No. 3 UCLA took the team title with a 1-over 877 and Charlotte Thomas of Washington held on for medalist honors with a 7-under 212.
Pickerell was a consistent as can be, shooting a 1-over 74 in all three rounds to finish in a tie for 12th place with a 3-over 222. She had three birdies in the final round, after carding two in each of the first two rounds, to lead the Beavers throughout the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
Freshman Olivia Benzin and senior Chelsea Saelee both tied for 36th place with a 13-over 232. Benzin went 77-78-77 over the three rounds, while Saelee carded scores of 76-80-76.
Sophomore Haley Nist was a stroke back with a 14-over 77-81-75--233 to finish in a tie for 39th place and sophomore Hannah Swanson concluded play in a tie for 51st place with a 24-over 78-79-86--243.
Oregon State concluded its four-tournament fall season 17th at the Dick McGuire Invitational, second at the Rose City Collegiate, sixth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and eighth at the Pac-12 Preview.
The Beavers' spring season begins on Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
