
OSU Fifth After Day Two at Phill Hansel Invite

HOUSTON, Texas – Senior Sammy Harrison won the 200-yard freestyle and the Oregon State relay teams posted a pair of top-five results as the Beaver swimming team maintained its position in fifth place in the 10-team field on Friday night at the Phill Hansel Invitational held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
After a Friday in which multiple swimmers posted top-10 all-time performances, Oregon State boosted its points total to 503, closely behind fourth-place team and host Houston (519). Rice continues to pace the field, holding the top spot with 773.50 points.
Harrison was victorious for the second straight day after winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.14. After swimming the third-fastest 500 free time in program history on Thursday (4:46.08), the Henderson, Nev. entered OSU's top-10 all-time list again, as her 200 free time on Friday was the fourth-fastest in school history.
The Beavers set the tone for the meet by opening with a fourth-place finish and time of 1:42.65 in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome for the event was Amani Amr, Czsarina Isleta, Constance Toulemonde and Sophie MacEwan.
Oregon State placed third in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the final event during Friday's competition. Toulemonde, Harrison, Isleta and Megan Lam combined to clock a time of 7:28.51, edging out Idaho's time of 7:28.98.
Individually, Toulemonde also posted a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 55.97 after a time of 55.22 in preliminaries, the eighth-fastest 100-yard butterfly time in program history.
Isleta followed with a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:03.02. Isleta's time ranks as the No. 6 time on Oregon State's all-time list. Corrine Shigeta placed ninth in the event with a time of 1:03.33, which also enters OSU's all-time list at No. 7.
Amr rounded out top individual performances with a time of 55.85 in the 100-yard backstroke preliminaries and a time of 56.19 in an eight-place finish in the finals. Those times rank as the No. 7 and No. 8 times in program history, respectively.
Following the Oregon State swimming team's meet this weekend will be the U.S. Winter Nationals held in Federal Way, Wash. The meet will take place all day from Thursday, Dec. 3 through Saturday, Dec. 5. Following that meet, the team will have over a month off before hosting Utah in a dual meet at Osborn at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016.
