Three Beaver Boats Medal at Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oregon State men's rowing team opened its fall season earlier than usual traveling one crew to the Head of the Oklahoma regatta to race Saturday and Sunday. In all, the Beavers brought home three medals in three races in Gabe Winkler's first races as the Beavers' interim head coach.
“This was a great event that we'll look forward to competing at again in the future,” Winkler said. “I'm happy with the results, I thought our guys raced well especially considering we've only been back together on campus for a couple weeks. This is certainly a good starting point for the season ahead.”
In Saturday afternoon racing, the Beavers' Collegiate 4+ crew raced to a second-place finish covering the 2.5-mile course in 14-minutes, 31.2-seconds less than one second ahead of Washington and trailing only the home team of Oklahoma City University.
Later in the day, OSU's entire Varsity 8+, piloted by Eric Sumner, took to the waters earning a third-place finish behind Harvard and OCU with a time of 12:52.77.
Oregon State finished its competition Sunday morning in an event the Beavers rarely enter, the Collegiate 4x. OSU's coxswain-less crew, with Bobby Vernazza in the stroke seat outraced OCU to win the contest in a time of 13:50.08.
