OSU outshot the Ducks and had two more saves but drops the annual the annual Civil War contest
EUGENE, Ore. – In its final match of the regular season the Oregon State women's soccer team fell to Oregon 2-0, Friday in Eugene, despite outshooting the Ducks and having two more saves in goal. The Beavers fired 16 shots toward U of O goalie Abby Steele's direction, while Oregon managed just 14. OSU goalie Sammy Jo Prudhomme made a total of six saves (five of which came in the second half) to Steele's four, but the Beavers were unable to put one past the Oregon keeper and lost their first match to their in-state rivals since 2006. The loss dropped OSU to 11-6-3 on the season and 3-5-3 in Pac-12 play, while the victory improved Oregon to 8-10-2 on the year and 3-7-1 within the conference.
The Ducks picked up their first score in the 42nd minute when Prudhomme came out of the goal to clear a pass and the ball she kicked was deflected by forward Achijah Berry, which went into an empty Beaver goal. The score remained 1-0 Oregon at the half as OSU looked to equal the Ducks' fluke score in the second period.
Both teams would trade shots for the better part of the second half, with Oregon booting five total and the Beavers sending a trio of shots toward the U of O goal. In the 63rd minute the Ducks capitalized on their second score following a corner kick. That's when Prudhomme made a nice save and deflection outside of the box on a shot by U of O midfielder Ryann Davie. After the deflection, the ball rolled to the right side of the goal where Ducks forward Bri Pugh was waiting and swatted it in for a commanding 2-0 Oregon lead.
Heavy rain blanketed the field during the match's final ten minutes of play as Oregon State tried to dent the scoreboard for the first time. The Beavers would have their best shot when in the 86th minute junior Erin Uchacz fired a ball that went just wide of the Duck goal.
Oregon State's leading shot takers Friday were Gwen Bieck, Haley Shaw and Uchacz, who each booted three a-piece. More than a have dozen Beavers each fired at least one toward the Oregon goal.
OSU now awaits its fate to see if it qualifies for the NCAA Tournament. Bids will be announced during the NCAA selection show at 1:30pm, Monday, Nov. 5 on NCAA.com.

On his team's play…
“The difference today was that we made a couple of errors. We definitely had our opportunities, we just needed to put them away.”
On the second goal…
“It was a corner kick and we got caught on the counter attack. We were caught off and they (Oregon) did a good job getting numbers forward and putting it away.”
On the team's mentality after the loss…
“We just need to keep our heads up and see what happens on Monday (during the NCAA selection show). That is all we can do.”
