CORVALLIS, Ore. - RJ Pena, James Roberts and Taylor Meeks all picked up pins as the 18th-ranked Oregon State wrestling team opened its 2011-12 home schedule with a 44-6 win over Simon Fraser Friday night at Gill Coliseum.
Pena continued his early season dominance to pace the Beavers, who took eight of the 10 bouts on the night. He improved to 7-0 on the year with seven pins after downing Simon Fraser's Alex Stemer in 1:34. That's his fourth quickest pin of the season.
Joining him on the board were Roberts and Meeks who downed Sukhan Chahal and Arjun Gill, respectively. Meeks' was the quickest of the night at 40 seconds as he improved to 7-0 on the year - and in his career. Two of his seven wins have come via the fall.
Roberts put OSU on the board after Skylor Davis defeated Pat Rollins, 8-2, to open the night. Roberts got Chahal in 4:36 to improve to 7-0 on the year and 4-0 in bouts decided by falls.
No Oregon State (1-0) win came for less than five points as four bouts were decided by technical falls and a fifth was a forfeit win by Scott Sakaguchi.
Mike Mangrum improved to 6-0 with a 17-1 win over J.J. Lum, and improved to 62-22 all-time for his career.
Cody Weishoff picked up a tech fall over Brock Lamb, 17-1, as well. He improved to 6-2 on the season and is 3-0 in bouts decided by technical falls.
Ty Vinson kept the Beavers' individual bout streak rolling with an 18-2 technical fall victory over Max Arcand. Vinson, a junior, improved to 23-12 for his career and 6-0 this season. It's his second win via technical fall this season.
Clayton Jack picked up Oregon State's final individual victory on the night when he was a perfect 15-0 against Gurjot Kooner. Jack is 6-0 this season and 88-34 for his career. He is 12 wins away from becoming the 20th wrestler in Oregon State history to reach the 100-win plateau.
The Beavers now set their sights on Boise State, which comes to Corvallis Sunday for a 1 p.m. PT matchup with Oregon State.
