LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Oregon State swim team completed day two of the Arena Invitational today, continuing on from their successful day yesterday during the first day of competition.
The Beavers had seven athletes qualify for the finals of their respective events today including Crystal Kibby, Ivette Dailey-Deaton, Melissa Myers, Rachel O'Brien, Jenni Dole, Shelby Webber and Dakota Bloch. Out of those seven athletes that qualified for their final events, Dole, Webber and O'Brien all earned NCAA “B” cuts for their respective events for the second day in a row. An NCAA “B” cut allows those that get a fast enough time possibly qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Kibby, who also swam in the finals of the 200-yard individual medley yesterday, qualified for the finals of the 400-yard individual medley today with a time of 4:25.22. Kibby topped herself again when she competed in the finals finishing 14th out of 32 overall with a time of 4:23.33. That time moves her into ninth place on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list in that event.
Dailey-Deaton and Myers also qualified for the finals in the individual medley with preliminary times of 4:31.48 and 4:32.50, respectively. Dailey-Deaton finished the finals for the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:28.59 and Myers completed the event in 4:32.39.
O'Brien and Dole both qualified for the finals in the 100-yard butterfly. O'Brien's time of 53.65 was the fourth best time in the preliminaries and also was good enough for an NCAA “B” cut. She now currently sits at third on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list.
O'Brien placed fifth in the finals out of 24 athletes with a time of 53.65, still insuring her NCAA “B” cut time. Dole placed ninth overall out of 24 athletes with a time of 54.22, which beat her time in the preliminaries and was good enough for an NCAA “B” cut qualifying time.
Dole also qualified for the finals in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.53. Her time in the 100-yard backstroke was the fourth fastest time at the meet and was fast enough to earn an NCAA “B” cut in the event. Unfortunately, Dole disqualified in the finals of the event.
Shelby Webber also competed in the 100-yard backstroke. She finished with a time of 53.63. That time was fast enought to earn an NCAA "B" cut time. Webber's time of 53.63 put her in fourth place on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list.
Shelby Webber and Dakota Bloch both qualified for the finals in the 200-yard freestyle with their times of 1:49.08 and 1:52.14, respectively. Webber preliminary time of 1:49.08 in the 200-yard freestyle puts her third all-time at Oregon State in this event. Webber finished in sixth place overall in the finals with a time of 1:48.16. Not only did that time give Webber an NCAA “B” cut, it also placed her third on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list.
The Beavers will return to action tomorrow when they finish their three day stay in Long Beach, Calif. at the Arena Invitational. Preliminaries are set to start at approximately 10:30 a.m. and the finals are set to take place at 5:30 p.m.
