LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Junior Jenni Dole swept the backstroke events but the Beavers fell to UCLA and UCSB, Saturday afternoon at the Speiker Aquatics Center on the campus of UCLA. The Beavers fell to UCLA by a score of 159-97 and to UCSB by a score of 170-92.
"Overall it was a pretty solid meet for us," Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said following the meet Saturday. "It had some definite bright spots for us. It was good for us to find out where we are heading into our next meet at the Arena Invitational."
Dole recorded a season best time of 56.44 in the 100 yard backstroke Saturday for her first dual win of the season in the event and her second overall win, she won the 100 yard butterfly in a dual meet against USC to start the season.
Dole picked up her second event win of the day when she posted, again a season best, time of 2:01.65 in the 200 yard backstroke. Her two wins in the backstroke events gives her three dual wins on the year and 14 for her career.
Dole also led off in two relays for the Beavers, the 200 yard medley and the 200 yard freestyle. The Beavers finished third in the 200 medley with a time of 1:46.54 and second in the 200 freestyle with a time of the 1:36.98. Both times are team season bests.
Sophomore Rachel O'Brien finished third in the 200 yard backstroke event with a career best time of 2:02.69. She also finished fourth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.80.
"We're going to see both of these teams again at the Arena Invitational and they will see a different team from us," Liebowitz said. "I'm really looking forward to that meet."
The Beavers will next hit the pool when they host their annual Alumni Relays at the Dixon Recreation Center on the Oregon State campus next Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The Arena Invitational will be a three day event starting Nov. 18 in Long Beach, Calif.
