CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State recorded four pins and beat Simon Fraser 39-9 in non-league wrestling Sunday afternoon at Gill Coliseum. One of those pins came from 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen, who won his 20th straight match as the 21st-ranked Beavers (6-4 overall, 2-1 Pacific-10) won their fourth straight dual meet.
OSU also got pins by 125-pounder Michael Delaney, 141-pounder Shane Cunanan and 197-pounder Clint Wilson. Simon Fraser (0-5), ranked 12th nationally in the NAIA, got wins from third-ranked Neil Ewers at 149 pounds and fifth-ranked Per-Lars Blomgren at 174 pounds, plus a victory from 165-pounder Danny Einhorn.
"It was about what I anticipated," Oregon State head coach Joe Wells said. "Simon Fraser is a young team, and they've got some kids who are going to be tough ... we can learn from this, having back-to-back meets (after beating Fresno State on Saturday). The objective for all our matches is the same - to score a lot, work on our techniques and see what our conditioning is like."
The Beavers, already missing 184-pounder Isaac Weber due to a season-ending knee injury suffered in practice last week, had to make another lineup change when 133-pounder Ben Richards was unable to wrestle Sunday because of back spasms. OSU bumped Nathan Navarro up a weight to accept a forfeit at 133, giving freshman 125-pounder Michael Delaney the chance for his first varsity match.
Delaney took down Simon Fraser's Nick Charrette just 16 seconds into their match and scored both a two-point and three-point near fall before Charrette escaped. Delaney then took the Clansman down again and pinned him in 1:15.
Shane Cunanan came up with OSU's second pin, earning his third straight victory at 141 pounds by flattening SFU's Mike Munsie in 5:23. Cunanan was leading 17-4 at the time of the pin, having recorded three takedowns and three near falls.
Jorgensen, ranked fourth nationally, added a pin at 157 pounds as it took him just 1:29 to finish off Jeremy Andrews of Simon Fraser. Jorgensen, who hasn't lost since his opening match of the season, is now 20-1 with three pins and has scored team bonus points in 67 percent of his matches.
OSU's final pin of the day was at 197 pounds, where Clint Wilson thumped Travis Morgan in 1:36, it was Wilson's second pin in his last three matches.
Oregon State's Jake Huffman again wrestled up two weights, going at 184 in place of the injured Weber. After being pinned by Fresno State's Jason Rossotti on Saturday, Huffman earned his first victory at 184 by beating SFU's James Messinger 10-3.
The Beavers also received a forfeit at heavyweight, giving eighth-ranked Jason Cooley the win to improve his record to 15-5 this season. Cooley did wrestle an exhibition against Canadian junior college heavyweight Jay Pickering, winning 12-3.
Sunday's meet was the final collegiate dual as referee for Phil Atkinson, who is wrapping up his 40-year career as a wrestling official this season.
