“In the last six years as a Senior Associate Athletic Director, he has taken our Student-Athlete Development program to levels among the very best in the nation,” Barnes said. “His leadership and professionalism working with our student-athletes and fellow staff members has been unmatched. Kimya also recently took on the responsibility of Chief Diversity Officer for Athletics and worked in partnership with several university areas to develop initiatives that have strongly benefitted the Oregon State community.
“It was an easy decision to promote Kimya, and we are very excited to see him take our athletic department to even higher levels.”
Massey’s new responsibilities at Oregon State include serving as the Chief Operating Officer for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and providing leadership in various capacities. It includes leading OSU's sports supervisory team, where he will serve as the sport supervisor for the football, men's basketball and baseball programs.
He also serves as the lead of multiple internal operations units, including facilities, capital projects and various student-services programs. He will continue to head the Student-Athlete Development program and serve as a liaison to the Academic Services for Athletes.
“I am very excited for this new role and opportunity to continue to serve our outstanding student-athletes and programs at Oregon State,” Massey said. “I want to thank Scott Barnes for this opportunity, as well as his leadership and vision for Beaver Athletics. This is truly an incredible community with great momentum, and I am ecstatic to continue to be a part of Beaver Nation.”
Massey is currently finishing a term as the Committee Chair on the NCAA Men’s Soccer Selection Committee and is on the American Baseball Coaches Association Diversity Sub-Committee. He also served on the N4A Board of Directors.
He arrived at Oregon State after serving as the University of Central Florida’s senior associate athletic director for academic services for student-athletes from 2011-15. During his tenure, the Knights set numerous school records for academic achievement, including a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for student-athletes that reached 95 percent, the highest in the country for Division I public institutions.
From 2009-11, Massey was the assistant director at the Center for Athletic Academic Services at the University of Memphis. He also spent three years at Indiana University as the assistant athletic director for academic services after beginning his professional career as an academic advisor and assistant Lifeskills director at Michigan State University.
He earned degrees in anthropology and sociology in 2000 from Michigan State and a master’s in kinesiology with an emphasis on sports administration from MSU in 2004. He was a four-year letterman pitcher for the Spartans.
Massey and his wife, Rose, enjoy exploring all parts of the Pacific Northwest with their three dogs, Storm, Charlie and Clifford.
