Veal Takes 4th in 1,500m to Lead Beavs

EUGENE, Ore. – Had she not been running unattached, senior Sylvia Veal would have run Oregon State’s third fastest 3,000-meters with a time of 9:46.35 in a fourth place finish Saturday at the Oregon Preview at Hayward Field.
“Sylvia ran a great race today,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “From high school, she has improved her 3,000-meter time by more than a minute and 20 seconds. I am very pleased with her performance today.”
In the 1,500-meters, sophomore Hayley Oveson finished 11th overall in a personal best time of 4:41.62.
Accompanying Veal in the 3,000-meters was senior Rebecca Mishler finishing with a time of 10:30.41, good enough for 14th overall.
“All three missed a ton of time this winter with injuries,” Sullivan said. “Sylvia missed around eight weeks, Rebecca seven, and Hayley missed about six weeks of training due to nagging injuries. So for them to come out and perform the way they way they did today is very impressive. I’m really, really proud of all three. This just shows the cross training and weight room is paying off, and you can miss time and still improve.”
Oregon State track is back in action next Friday, March, 27 in Palo Alto, Calif. for the Stanford Invitational and in San Francisco, Calif. for the SF State Distance Carnival.
