Nov. 30, 2010
Corvallis, Ore. – Senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) and freshman Mona Kressl (Langenzenn, Germany) both earned All-Pacific-10 nods with Kressl being named to the All-Freshman Team, announced Tuesday by Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott.
Sawatzky, an honorable mention selection, earns her second conference honor after being named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Honorable Mention squad in 2007. This season, she finished with 462 kills (3.79 kps), good for ninth overall, and 538.5 points (4.41 pps). She finished with the second-most kills for a senior behind Rachel Rourke and ninth overall for most kills in a season.
Kressl, earning Pac-10 All-Freshman Team Honorable Mention status, broke the school record for freshmen in block assists with 116, finishing ninth overall for a single season and tying the second best rookie record for total blocks with 138. Kressl added 225 kills (1.89 kps) and 23 aces to her resume for the season.
Sawatzky’s honor marks the fourth straight year an Oregon State player has been honored, 22nd accolade overall. Kressl joins Sawatzky and Eneliko in earning freshman team honors, marking the 15th mention in school history.
