Nov. 23, 2011
Walnut Creek, Calif. – Junior Alyssa O’Neil (West Linn, Ore.) and redshirt freshman Tayla Woods (Corvallis, Ore.) both tallied Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honors to lead a school record 10 selections, announced Wednesday by Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. Oregon State has led the conference two seasons in a row for All-Academic Team nods. With two on the first team, the Beavers also paced all honorees on the top squad this year. O’Neil, a human development and family sciences major, was named to the second team last season, while this marks Woods’ first honor. A biology major, junior Martie Massey (Beaverton, Ore.) earned the Beavers’ lone second team distinction – her first career honor. Senior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai’i), juniors Megan McBride (Auburn, Wash.) and Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta), sophomores Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) and Kelsey Zimmerman (Bend, Ore.) and redshirt freshmen Allie Rogers (Eugene, Ore.) and Laura Schaudt (Philomath, Ore.) rounded out the Oregon State selections with honorable mention status. McBride and Saxton both earned their second career accolade. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
