Orange Squad Sweeps the Orange and Black Volleyball Scrimmage

Corvallis, Ore. – Senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) led all hitters to boost the orange squad over the black in all three sets in Saturday’s Orange and Black Volleyball Scrimmage with 11 kills. Set scores were 25-21, 25-18, 15-5.
Sawatzky added six digs and a pair of assists, while junior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai’i) was close behind with nine kills for the black squad. Shaw racked up a scrimmage-high nine digs as well.
The Beavers played three sets, the first two to 25 and the third to 15, with the first set being with the team split evenly. The second and third sets were the first unit against the second unit.
Freshmen Kelsey Zimmerman (Bend, Ore.) and Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) led the serving with three aces each, while sophomores Tami Brown (Eugene, Ore.) and Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) were close behind with two.
The Beavers open up the 2010 season at home in the Corvallis Invitational, hosting Sacramento State, Illinois State and Portland in a two-day tournament beginning on Friday, Aug. 27.
