Swimming Drops Meet In Los Angeles



LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Oregon State swim team competed Friday afternoon in Los Anegeles, falling to the host UCLA Bruins and the visiting UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos. Oregon State fell to UCLA, 174-71, and to UCSB, 158-87.

The Beavers took home four second-place finishes during the day, including one by the Oregon State “A” squad in the 200 yard medley relay. Oregon State took a time of 1:45.08, which trailed only UCSB at 1:44.01.

Saori Haruguchi finished second in the 200 freestyle, putting in a time of 1:50.54, narrowly behind UCLA’s Anna Poteete. The event was Haruguchi’s only individual performance of the afternoon.

Senior Kayla Rawlings finished second in the 200 yard butterfly, taking home a time of 2:02.33. Freshman Jenni Dole was Oregon State’s fourth second-place finisher on the day. She finished with a time of 2:02.08 in the 200 backstroke.

Dole also finished third in the 100 backstroke (57.87), followed closely by freshman Anna Heller, who was fourth with a time of 58.22. Heller placed third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.47.

Rawlings also impressed in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.28, good for third.

Finally, in the day’s second impressive relay event, the “A” squad placed third in the 400 freestyle.

Oregon State now has roughly a month off from competition before competing in the Husky Relays Dec. 4-6. The event will be held in Federal Way, Wash.
