Swimming Hosts NW Collegiate Relays

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's swim team hosts its first event of the season Saturday when it welcomes teams to the Osborn Aquatic Center pool for the Northwest Collegiate Relays. Events are scheduled to start at 12 p.m.

Competing in the Northwest Collegiate Relays with Oregon State will be Pacific University along with the Corvallis Aquatic team and the Hillsboro Heat. Team scores will not be kept.

The teams will be competing in 10 different relay events:
400 Free Relay
200 Butterfly Relay
200 Backstroke Relay
200 Breaststroke Relay
*Crescendo Relay (50-100-150-200)
4 x 100 IM Relay
200 Medley Relay
200 Freestyle Relay
400 Medley Relay
100 Freestyle Relay
*There will be one heat of each event with a 15 minute break following the crescendo relay.

The Beavers opened up their 2010-11 campaign with dual a meet at USC in which the Beavers fell 141-112. Junior Jenni Dole picked up her first dual win of the season in the 100 yard butterfly event with a time of 57.33. It is her first career dual win in the event. Her win in the 100 yard butterfly gives her 12 dual wins for her career which leads the squad. Dole also finished second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.63.

The first event at USC, and the 2010-11 season, saw the team of Anna Humphrey, Marisa Warman, Ocean Trail and Keri Holmstrom finish second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.10.

Sophomore Rachel O'Brien set a career best time in the 1,000 yard freestyle event with her fourth place finish time of 10:31.38 Friday. O'Brien also finished third in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.01.

 

 

Sophomore Ocean Trail also set a career best time, with hers coming in the 200 yard freestyle. She finished second in the event Friday with a time of 1:58.65.

The Beavers had a quick turnaround when they went to compete against San Diego State the day following the dual meet at USC. O'Brien set a new Aztec Aquaplex record with a time of 2:02.68 in the 200 yard butterfly event. The old record was 2:03.81 by Hannah Caron of Utah set on October 11, 2008. She finished first in the event, recording her first dual meet win of the season. O'Brien also picked up a win in the 500 yard freestyle with her time of 5:05.29.

Dole turned in a time of 2:03.12 in the 200 yard backstroke Saturday which is tied for the third-best time at the Aztec Aquaplex which was good enough for second place in the event. Dole also posted a time of 57.36 in the 100 yard butterfly for her second dual win of the season.

Rachel Wahl recorded her first dual win of the season when she posted a time of 4:38.79 in the 400 yard individual medley event. Her time ranks eighth all-time at the Aztec Aquaplex.

Following the relays Saturday, the Beavers next hit the pool in a triangular dual meet against UCLA and UCSB in Los Angeles, Calif. Oct. 23 starting at 12 p.m.
