Swimming off to Arizona for Two Double-Dual Meets
Jan. 5, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Women's Swimming team jumps back into the pool this Friday with a triangular meet with host team Arizona along with Northern Arizona and will start at 1 p.m. PST at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. . Saturday, January 8, the Beavers will travel to Tempe, Ariz. for another triangular meet with Arizona State and Utah starting at 12 p.m. in the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. "It should be a good weekend for us racing against Arizona which is always a big test," Oregon State women' swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said. "We have some young ladies who look like they are going to be NCAA scorers this year." Arizona, Northern Arizona and Oregon State all met last year in Tucson with the Beavers getting the dual meet split defeating Northern Arizona but falling to Arizona. This will be the 11th all-time meeting between Utah and Oregon State a year before Utah joins the newly expanded Pacific-12 Conference. "Since their joining the Pac-10 next year I thought it was a great opportunity when they said they wanted to be a part of the meet." Liebowitz said. "I was hoping that they would race so we'll get to see how we are against them." Junior Jenni Dole is looking to stay up with the top competitors in the country. She is currently ranked ninth in the nation in the 100 yard backstroke and 18th in the nation for the 200 backstroke with two "B-cut" times which are provisional qualifying times for the NCAA Championships in March. Sophomore Rachel O'Brien is also looking to stay on top with the 500 yard and 1000 yard freestyle which she is currently placing at the top on the team. She has two "B-cut" times in the 100yd and 200yd butterfly. "It should be a real challenge for them to see how they stack up against some of the better swimmers in the country," Liebowitz said. "Swimming against NAU, they always score their divers so that always makes it a little more interesting but it should be a pretty good meet. The next day against ASU we don't have quite the depth that they have but there will be some good races."
