Seniors Shine as Oregon State Defeats Seattle, 162-98

CORVALLIS, Ore. - On senior day it was the seniors who took center stage and led Oregon State to a 162-98 victory over Seattle University Friday afternoon at the Stevens Natatorium on the university campus. Four seniors took home individual dual wins including two each by Brittney Iverson and Signe Larson.
"They did really well today," Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said following the meet. "I think they took it up a notch from Monday and they looked a little sharper today. We're going to need to be even sharper for our toughest meet of the season next week against Washington State."
Senior Kate Hagan got it started in the first individual event, the 1,000-yard freestyle by setting a season best time of 10:34.95 on way to her second dual win of the season and her first in the event.
Senior Lisa Chewning recorded her first dual win of the season and only her second of her career in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.66.
Signe Larson, a senior and team co-captain, recorded her second and third dual wins of the season with her sweep of the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:06.13 and 2:22.38.
Fellow senior Brittney Iverson recorded her team high sixth and seventh dual wins of the season after winning the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.91 and the 50-yard freestyle with at time of 24.13. Her time in the 500-yard freestyle is the second best time put up by any Beaver this season and was just the first time she has competed in the event this season.
"I think this meet really pumped us up," Iverson said looking forward to the Washington State meet next week. "I think we'll be ready."
Freshman Rachel O'Brien recorded her first wins in the 100 and the 200-yard backstroke, third and fourth overall this season, when she swam personal bests of 58.04 and 2:07.33 respectively.
Sophomore Jenni Dole won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.65 while freshman Arianna Gorenc took home her first career dual win at Oregon State in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53. 22.
The Beavers return to action next Friday, Jan. 29 when they travel to Pullman, Wash. to face off with Pac-10 rival Washington State starting at 5 p.m.
