Bouska Extends Streak, But Softball Drops Game One Against Cal
May 4, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 22 Oregon State softball team held No. 1 California to only five hits, but a number of Beaver miscues in the field led to six unearned runs, as the Golden Bears claimed a 9-1 victory in game one of a weekend series at the OSU Softball Complex.
The loss moves Oregon State's record to 33-17 overall and 8-10 in Pac-12 play.
Cal (46-3, 17-2) got on the board in the second inning with a two-out rally after a walk and two hit-by-pitches loaded the bases for Frani Echavarria. The center fielder singled to right to drive in a pair and immediately following her RBI base knock, Jamia Reid added another on a line drive off the pitcher to make the score 3-0.
The Golden Bears added six more in the fourth on just two hits courtesy of three OSU errors. Half of the offensive output in the inning came courtesy of a Danielle Henderson three-run home run, her 14th of the season.
Oregon State pushed across its lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Hannah Bouska led off with a double into the left-center field gap to extend her hitting streak to five games. Elizabeth Santana followed that with a walk and became the Beavers' lead runner on second base after Cal's successful pickoff attempt. She would move to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI groundout from Erin Guzy.
Bouska is now batting .438 (7-for-16) in her last five games with three doubles, four runs and two RBI.
Game two of the series is tomorrow, Saturday, May 4. First pitch is slated for noon.
