Day 2 in Columbus: Training Day
Nov. 12, 2009
Columbus, Ohio - After a long day's travel yesterday, it was a relatively relaxing day. The only scheduled team activity, other than meals, was a training session at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The field at the "Jesse" is in good shape considering it plays host to both men and women's soccer and lacrosse. The team took the pitch in the early afternoon with the temperature right around 60 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
It was a pretty normal training session with the team game planning on how to defeat the host team Ohio State. The team was split into two squads and towards the end of the session they battled each other in a competition which was decided by a final penalty kick competition with brought out the competitive and fun loving nature of the team.
As everyone was packing our following the training session, Ohio State football practice was getting underway and the big question echoing through the team was, "what's a buckeye?" For those of you who do not know, it is a small, shiny, dark brown nut with a light tan patch that comes from the official state tree of Ohio, the buckeye tree, according to the official Ohio State University athletics website.
Following training, the bus headed to the local Kroger (Fred Meyer's to those back home) for snacks before heading back to the hotel for an afternoon of studying for most. The more rested the team gets after the long trip yesterday and the closer the match becomes the more excited and energetic it gets.
After another exquisite team dinner at the hotel, it was again free/study time before turning in for the night in anticipation for the match tomorrow night.
The match between Ohio State and Oregon State, in the battle of the OSU's, is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST following the Florida vs. Illinois State game. Gametracker will be available at osubeavers.com and a live video stream will be available through ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
