CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s soccer team has added another individual award this week as Jenna Richardson was named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team for district eight.
Richardson was one of 12 student-athletes honored with first team distinction, while 13 student-athletes were chosen to the second team. This is Richardson’s first academic honor because freshman cannot be nominated for academic awards.
The 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and academically.
Richardson is currently majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and is on track to graduate in 2014. She along with two other student-athletes were the only three members of the first team that came from the Pac-12 conference, while there were seven on the second team.
Along with being named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2010, Richardson has accumulated many awards for her on-field performances throughout here two seasons as a Beaver. During the 2011 season, Richardson was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Team of the Week in week eight of the season.
She is currently in second place on the team with eight goals, two assists and 18 points. She is second on the team in shots with 49, and she is second on the team with four game winning goals.
With Richardson’s first team honor, she will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team Ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Richardson and the Beavers will return to action this Friday at 7:00 p.m. on Paul Lorenz Field when they host the Portland Pilots in the first round of the NCAA Division I women’s soccer tournament.
