CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior forward Chelsea Buckland has been selected as part of the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's College Team of the Week for the her performances against Stanford and California.
Buckland and the Beavers put the No. 1 team in the country on their heels in the teams' matchup on October 28. Buckland got off three good chances against a strong Stanford defense. The Beavers lost the match 2-1, but it was the first time this season that Stanford had to come from behind to win.
Buckland scored two goals in the game against California on Sunday Oct. 30 when the Beavers defeated the Golden Bears 3-0. It was the first time that Oregon State has beaten California since 1995 and it was just the third time in school history.
Buckland's first goal came off a deflection from the California goalkeeper. After the deflected ball landed at her feet, Buckland slipped it in to the back of the net from 6-yards out to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the game.
Buckland scored her second goal in the 87th minute of the game when she received the ball out wide of the goal. She took a few touches and sent a beautiful shot from 20-yards out to the far post and into the goal. Buckland now has 10 goals and 23 points.
This is Buckland's third national honor and fifth total honor of the 2011 season.
