OSU Women's Soccer Back in Top-25 after Week Lay-off
Sept. 12, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the second time this season, the Oregon State women’s soccer team has earned a national ranking, rising to as high as No. 21 in the latest SoccerAmerica poll. The Beavers boast a 6-1-0 record on the season, having claimed wins over UAB, Portland, Portland State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara and most recently Cal Poly. Their only loss came at the hands of UC Irvine at home two weekends ago, but Linus Rhode’s crew has rebounded nicely, reeling off two straight wins by a combined 5-1 score. This is not the first time this season Oregon State has seen a No. 21 ranking as SoccerAmerica placed them in that exact spot, three weeks ago. They were also No. 23 that same week in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and have received a total of 37 votes for the Top-25 by the NSCAA this time around. The Beavers will look to continue their hot play of late this weekend against Gonzaga and Seattle in the Oregon State Nike Invitational. Also riding a hot streak of their own are OSU student-athletes Jenna Richardson and Sammy Jo Prudhomme. Richardson, a junior forward has scored two goals in two matches since returning from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan and is currently third on the team in points with four. Prudhomme still holds the high-water mark for saves by a Pac-12 goalie this season, with her 13 in her collegiate debut against Cal State Fullerton, Aug. 30. Her five stops versus UC Santa Barbara last Friday night gave her 18 on the season, which is good enough for sixth best in the conference. Both matches this weekend will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks, with kick-off against Gonzaga slated for 4 p.m. and Seattle on Sunday at 12 p.m. Support Oregon State University Athletics by making your tax deductible donation to the Beaver Athletic Student Fund.
