Sept. 2, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team travels south to Eugene, Ore. this weekend to take part in the University of Oregon Nike Tournament this Friday and Sunday. The Beavers will square off with Pacific on Friday Sept. 3 with a start time of 4:30 p.m. and UC Davis on Sunday Sept. 5 starting at 11 a.m. It will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Beavers and the Pacific Tigers (2-1-0 overall) with the Beavers winning the three previous matches. It will be the second time in which they have met on a neutral playing field. The Beavers (1-0-0) are coming off of their season opener in which they took down Seattle University by a score of 3-0. Leading goal scorer from 2009 Chelsea Buckland scored the first goal of the 2010 campaign and was followed up by two true freshman, Jenna Richardson and Erin Uchacz who both got their first career Oregon State goals. The Beavers outshot Seattle 16 to 10 for the game and junior keeper Colleen Boyd saved the only two shots on goal that came her way for her first shutout of the season and seventh of her career. Following the Oregon State matchup Friday with Pacific, the Beavers will take on UC Davis (1-0-0) on Sunday for the first time in school history. The Beavers are coming off their best season in program history when they reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament after beating both Ohio State and Florida in the tournament before falling in a close match at Notre Dame.
