Feb. 19, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State women's soccer head coach Linus Rhode announced the 2009 recruiting class on Wednesday as the group features seven athletes graduating from high school this spring. "Our 2009 class adds a whole new dimension to our team with a group of players that can play in several different positions," Rhode said. "For the past two seasons, we have had a very small roster and it will be nice to add a lot of quality and depth to the squad. These student-athletes will give us the ability to create a much more competitive environment in our program and we are very excited about each player and their future at Oregon State." The signing class includes the following players: Milan Cabrera (D, 5-8, Canyon Country, Calif.; Canyon High School), Amanda Griffin (GK, 5-9, Lake Oswego, Ore.; Lakeridge High School, Sarah Leads (F, 5-9, Carpinteria, Calif.; Santa Barbara High School), Lia Margolis (D, 5-5, Park City, Utah; Park City High School), Lindsay Meiggs (F, 5-8, Happy Valley, Ore.; Clackamas High School), Megan Miller (F/M, 5-6, Federal Way, Wash.; Todd Beamer High School) and Sierra Wang (M/D, 5-6, Tacoma, Wash.; Stadium High school). Milan Cabrera (D, 5-8, Canyon Country, Calif.; Canyon High School) "Milan is a very smart defender and has all the tools to excel at Oregon State. She will provide us with a lot of flexibility to move players around in the backline and midfield," Rhode said. Amanda Griffin (GK, 5-9, Lake Oswego, Ore.; Lakeridge High School)
"Amanda is a tremendous athlete and has done a great job for her club in goal," Rhode said. "She has great potential and will give us more depth in that position." Sarah Leads (F, 5-9, Carpinteria, Calif.; Santa Barbara High School) "She has tremendous pace and the ability to take defenders on in the final third of the field," Rhode said. "She will add to our attacking options and give us some different looks."" Lia Margolis (D, 5-5, Park City, Utah; Park City High School) "Lia a very strong defender who has played against some of the top strikers in this region with her club and state team," Rhode said. "I think Lia has the attributes and the right mentality to make a difference in our program." Lindsay Meiggs (F, 5-8, Happy Valley, Ore.; Clackamas High School) "Lindsay can play several different positions and always does a good job. She has a very good understanding of the game and with her athleticism she will be a player that will be able to step in and compete right away," Rhode said. Megan Miller (F/M, 5-6, Federal Way, Wash.; Todd Beamer High School) "Megan is a very creative player who has the ability to play in a number of different positions," Rhode said. "She has played at a high club level in Washington and is expected to come in and contribute right away." Sierra Wang (M/D, 5-6, Tacoma, Wash.; Stadium High School) "Sierra is a right-sided player than can offer us options in the midfield and at the back," Rhode said. "She has good speed and athleticism to get in the attack." |
