CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 2-0 Friday night in the Pac-12 conference opener. The Beavers are now 7-2-1 on the season.
"We didn't know what to expect from Colorado," head coach Linus Rhode said. "I thought it was a solid game. We had to deal with physical play and I think overall, we did a good job today. We outshot them and finished off some chances nicely."
Chelsea Buckland continued her scoring frenzy into this weekend as she notched another multi-goal game. She started her score sheet when she found the back of the net in the 24th minute of the game. After she was denied by the goalkeeper with her first shot, the ball was back at her feet for her to slip the ball past the keeper and make the score 1-0.
Buckland scored her second goal of the game in the 64th minute of the game. After a doing a give-and-go with Brandi Dawson, Buckland dribbled past a defender and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to add to the score. Buckland now has six goals this season, and all have come in the last three games.
"Well, Chelsea is obviously back to form," Rhode said. "That is great for her and great for the team. Our job and her job is to keep her in that zone for the rest of the season."
Oregon State had several other chances to score during the game. The Beavers outshot Colorado 17 to 11. Buckland almost had another hat trick in the 81st minute when Milan Cabrera sent a ball over the Buffalo defense. Buckland tried to chip it over the goalkeeper again, but missed the goal by inches.
Oregon State will return to action Friday Sept. 30 when they take on USC in and Sunday Oct. 2 when they take on UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
