Rowing Sweeps Open 8+ Races at Portland Fall Classic

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s and women’s rowing squads swept the Varsity 8+ races at the Portland Fall Classic, held on the Willamette River on Sunday. The Oregon State men’s 8+ “A” crew won in a time of 16:33.84 while the women’s 8+ “A” crew won in a time of 18:38.46.

Both squads saw its 8+ “B” crew turn in a good performance as well as they both earned second-place honors in the Varsity 8+ races. On the men’s side, Oregon State’s “B” crew finished in second-place in a time of 17:34.56 while the women’s “B” crew finished just over two seconds behind the “A” group with a time of 18:40.93. The Beavers “C” crew gave Oregon State three of the top-four places on the women’s side as the 8+ boat finished in a time of 00.19:56.84 to finish in fourth-place, behind Willamette University.

In addition to the Open 8+ races, the Oregon State men’s squad had five boats competing in 4+ races. In the open division, Oregon State finished second in a time of 19:29.49 as Pocock Rowing Center captured the Open 4+ race in a time of 18:22.85.

The Beavers also had four boats compete in the Men’s Collegiate 4+ race as the “A” crew captured the win with a time of 18:31.13. The “B” crew earned second-place honors with a time of 19:17.79 as the “D” crew and “C” crew rounded out the results in third and fourth-place, respectively.
