Fourteen OSU Rowers Earn Academic Recognition

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - A total of 14 Oregon State student-athletes were named to the various men's and women's rowing Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic teams announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen Friday.
To be eligible for selection to an academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or substitute of significant contribution.
On the women's side, seniors Alina Haberstroh (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton HS), Jane Ivey (Nelson, New Zealand), Sarah Joos (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis HS), Melissa Penwell (Eugene, Ore./Churchill HS), juniors Katie Humm (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Sarah Jarrett (Portland, Ore./Benson HS) and sophomore Julia Dissen (Hillsboro, Ore./Glencoe HS) made the first team. Juniors Devery Karz (Park City, Utah), Celia Magistrale (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS), Kylie Robertson (Lake Forest, Calif.) and sophomore Meghan Leineweber (Portland, Ore./Grant HS) received second team honors.
Ivey and Penwell secured first team honors for the third straight year, while Humm and Joos each earned first team for the first time after two previous second team honors.
Representing the men's team are senior Will Gustafson (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley HS) and sophomore Sam Schwartz (Corbett, Ore./Corbett HS) on the first team. Senior Beth Olsen (Bend, Ore./Summit HS) received second team honors.
Gustafson's first team award is the third of his career.
