CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 15 Oregon State women’s rowing team will be hosting the University of Victoria on Saturday, March 13, at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore. This event makes the beginning of the start to their spring season.
“It's always exciting to get on the water for our first race,” said Oregon State head coach Emily Ford. “We've been training for a long time and are ready to see how fast we are going.”
The Beavers will be racing a varsity 8+, a second varsity 8+, two novice 2+ crews as well as three varsity 4+ crews this Saturday in Lowell. Racing will begin at 9 a.m. on Dexter Lake with temperatures expected to be as high as 52 degrees.
The Vikes are not an unfamiliar opponent for the Beavers as last season’s opener was in British Colombia, where Oregon State recorded wins each of the four events it was entered in.
“The University of Victoria is a great opener for us. They are typically a sharp team and I expect they will be excellent competition,” Ford said of the upcoming weekend.
The meet/regatta will be held in Lowell, Ore. on Dexter Lake’s 2,000-meter course that begins at the covered bridge on the east side of the lake and runs down towards the OAR boathouse for the finish line.
Last season the Beavers hosted Washington State at Dexter Lake where the Beavers recorded victories in three out of four events they were entered in.
The No. 16 Oregon State Men’s Rowing team will also be competing this Saturday at Lowell against the University of Victoria.
