Beavers All Access to Feature Gymnastics This Week
Dec. 30, 2009
CORVALLIS - The Oregon State women's gymnastics program will be featured on this week's Beavers All Access, first airing on Thursday, Dec. 31, as part of a special series showcasing Oregon State's winter sports. The gymnastics feature show will first air on FSN Northwest at 12:30 p.m. PT on Thursday and will replay throughout the week. The feature will take a look back at the 2009 season, expectations for 2010 and will have features about what it takes to create a routine for the floor exercise as well as a behind-the-scenes look at coaching gymnasts. The Beavers' 2010 squad, which is ranked No. 10 in the nation in the preseason, consists of a young team with a lot of international and NCAA Championship experience. OSU is led by a trio of seniors including Mandi Rodriguez, a four-time All-American (2007 first team on vault, and 2009 first team on vault and floor and second team in the all-around) and Laura-Ann Chong, who earned All-Pac-10 honors on the beam. In addition, two-time bars All-American Jen Kesler is back for her junior season as well as sophomore Leslie Mak, who tied with Kesler for the Pac-10 title on the bars.
The veterans are joined by four newcomers: Leilani Alferos (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Kelsi Blalock (Puyallup, Wash.), Melanie Jones (Mordialloc, Australia) and Makayla Stambaugh (Antelope, Calif.) all of whom are expected to have an immediate impact on all four lineups.
The Beavers' begin the season Jan. 8 with the 30th annual Salbasgeon Suites Invitational against No. 13 Illinois, Air Force and Alaska-Anchorage. FSN Northwest and FCS can be found in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the country on the channels listed below:
