Oregon State to Host 2011 NCAA Gymnastics West Regional
April 28, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State has been selected to host the 2011 NCAA Women's Gymnastics West Regional Championships as announced recently by the NCAA. The April 2, 2011 regional will mark the 13th time in history that Oregon State has hosted the event.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to host another postseason championship meet at home," said OSU head coach Tanya Chaplin. "Competing at home is a huge advantage especially when Gill Coliseum is your home and you have a large base of knowledgeable fans like we do. Our fans love to compete at Gill with the support of Beaver Nation, and all of the gymnasts that will compete in an event as important as a regional championship deserve to have the support and enjoy an atmosphere like we are able to provide in our venue."
Oregon State last hosted the NCAA West Regional in 2008 when the Beavers enjoyed a huge night knocking off top-seeded Michigan to earn OSU's first regional championship since 1992.
The West Regional field will include six teams with the top two finishers advancing to the NCAA Championships.
In 2009, Oregon State advanced from the NCAA Central Regional Championships reaching the NCAA Championships for the fourth straight season. The Beavers ultimately finished 11th in the nation and four OSU gymnasts combined for six All-America awards. OSU is set to return 10 gymnasts from the 2009 squad including 15 of 24 routines from this season's NCAA Championships.
