Amanda Schulberg shifts into a new role for the 2011-12 season as an undergraduate student assistant coach. Schulberg was forced to retire from gymnastics in the fall of 2011 following a series of knee injuries. Prior to her arrival at Oregon State, Schulberg was a 2009 Junior Olympic National Team member after finishing second in the all-around at the 2009 J.O. National Championships. She also finished second on the uneven bars and fourth on vault at the meet as a junior. Schulberg scored a career-best 9.675 on the beam in exhibition in the 2011 season-opener against LSU and matched it a week later against Ohio State. Several weeks later, she suffered a season-ending knee injury for the second year in a row eventually leading to the decision to retire from competition. A psychology major, Schulberg is a sophomore from Henderson, Nev. |
