Women's Hoops to Face Arizona State on Wednesday at Pac-10 Tournament

Corvallis, Ore. The 10th-seeded Oregon State women’s basketball team (9-20, 2-16) will face the third-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils (19-9, 11-7) for the second time in five days on Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 12:00 p.m. in the first round of the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament at the Galen Center.

Arizona State took both meetings this season, winning by a total of eight points over both contests. The Sun Devils won 49-46 in Tempe on New Year’s Eve and earned a 59-54 decision on Saturday in legendary Gill Coliseum. Arizona State has won the last 17 matchups.

The winner of the first round game will play the winner of the No. 6 California (15-14, 7-11)/No. 7 Washington (11-16, 6-12) contest on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Galen Center in a quarterfinal bout.

Pac-10 Tournament Notes: 

  • Oregon State has only faced Arizona State one other time in the Pac-10 Tournament in 2006 with the Sun Devils being ranked 11th nationally and winning 74-66.
  •  Oregon State is 5-9 all-time at the Pac-10 Tournament, while Arizona State is 9-8 with one conference tournament title.
  •  The No. 10 seed has never faced the No. 3 seed in the history of the tournament.
  •  The No. 10 seed is 2-9 in tournament play.
  • Felicia Ragland is the only Oregon State player to earn All-Tournament honors. She was named to the team in 2002.
  • Margo Evashevski, a 1993 CoSIDA Academic All-American and Beaver letterwinner from 1990-93, will be the game ball presenter.
  •  The Pacific Life Pac-10 Basketball Tournament enters its 10th season with the womens portion splitting its time between Galen Center and Staples Center, the first time in the history of the event the womens teams will have the opportunity to play in an NBA/WNBA venue, joining the mens event for the semifinal and championship games.
  • The Beavers last win the tournament was a 52-42 win over Washington last season on March 11, 2010.
