A strong defense can carry a team.

The Oregon State women's basketball team faces a tough Pacific-10 Conference season starting today with a home game against Washington State with a young team, one that is still searching for an identity.

There is one thing the Beavers know about themselves: They play pretty good defense.

The Beavers are holding opponents to 49.9 points a game which has them ranked in the top 10 nationally.
