Men's Soccer Spring Schedule Highlighted By Two MLS Opponents
March 5, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Just two weeks after playing Major League Soccer's (MLS) Portland Timbers, the Oregon State men's soccer team will continue its spring schedule with an impressive slate of six games, highlighted by another MLS matchup, this time against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, March 10. "It's a great test for our team to be able to compete against top-flight, professional talent," Oregon State head coach Steve Simmons said. "There aren't many places in the country you can go and play two games against North America's best. We're very fortunate and thankful for the relationships we've developed with both the Timbers and the Sounders and are positive that these sorts of contests will prepare us immensely for the season this fall." The Beavers played the Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland on Feb. 23 in a match that was closed to the public. Oregon State's game against the Sounders will be at the team's official training facility, the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash. this coming Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Fans will not be permitted in the general seating area for that session, but can watch from behind the fencing that rings the pitch. After a month-long break, the Beavers will be back in action on Saturday, April 7 when they host Seattle University (11:00 a.m.) and Humboldt State (12:30 p.m.). OSU will travel to Portland on successive weekends in mid to late-April. The Beavers will play the University of Portland on Saturday, April 14 at 11:30 a.m. and will visit Concordia on the 21st to play the Cavaliers (9:30 a.m.) and Seattle Pacific (11:00 a.m.) Oregon State will conclude its spring schedule with its annual Alumni Game on Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. All matches in Corvallis will take place on the university's intramural fields adjacent to Gill Coliseum due to upgrades being made to Paul Lorenz Field.
