Men's and Women's Rowing Places 26 on Pac-10 Academic Squad

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – A total of 26 Oregon State student-athletes were named to the various men’s and women’s rowing Pac-10 Conference All-Academic teams, announced by the league office on Tuesday. The Oregon State women’s rowing squad placed 21 on the all-academic team while the men’s rowing crew had five all-academic selections.
To be eligible for selection on an all-academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter, substitute or significant contributor.
On the women’s side, seniors Katie Humm (3.52 GPA, Biology), Sarah Jarrett (3.77 GPA, Industrial Engineering), and Celia Magistrale (3.50 GPA, Exercise and Sport Science); juniors Lauren Morgenthaler (3.97 GPA, Sociology) and Leslie Urban (3.94 GPA, Geography); and, sophomores Avery Hamann (3.86 GPA, Chemical Engineering), Hilary Polis (3.83 GPA, Environmental Economics) and Rebecca Temple (3.84 GPA, Mathematics) secured first-team all-academic honors. Humm’s selection to the squad marked the second consecutive selection to the first-team squad.
In addition to the eight first-team selections, Julia Dissen (Jr., 3.50 GPA, Biology), Alexandra Hoffman (Jr., 3.40 GPA, Chemistry), Meghan Leineweber (Jr., 3.36 GPA, Nutrition), Kylie Robertson (Sr., 3.39 GPA, Marketing), Melissa Sloan (So., 3.46 GPA, Environmental Science) and Katie Stephenson (Sr., 3.32 GPA, Political Science) were named second-team all-academic.
On the men’s side, Oregon State was represented with five first-team selections, including senior Sam Schwartz (3.77 GPA, Construction Engineering), who was named first-team all academic for the second consecutive year. Joining Schwartz on the first team are Jonathan Gallion (Sr., 3.53 GPA, Microbiology), Patrick Kohan (Sr., 3.26 GPA, Business Administration), Spencer Robertson (Sr., 3.52 GPA, Biology) and Jeremy Sugden (Sr., 3.69 GPA, Recreation Resource Management).
