Men's Rowing Opens Season against Victoria
March 12, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men’s rowing team will begin their 2010 spring season with a home regatta against Victoria on Saturday, March 13, at Dexter Lake.
“It’s always good to start with a squad like Victoria,” said Oregon State head coach Steve Todd. “They’ll be a really good test for us early on. Our guys have been preparing really well and they’re very excited to start racing.”
This weekend’s race will mark the fifth consecutive year the schools have met on the water, the most recent being last year’s University of Victoria sweep at Elk Lake in Victoria, B.C. The Vikes are currently the Canadian national champions in college racing. They had a successful first weekend of their spring season, with their Varsity 8+ earning first place in the Elk Lake Spring Regatta.
The Beavers will be racing at Dexter Lake with five crews. The V8+ will be led by sophomore coxswain Dan Thompson, along with co-captains senior Bronson Shafer and junior Rob Hannah.
In addition to the V8+, Oregon State will bring a Junior Varsity 8+ and Freshman 8+, as well as two novice Freshman 4+ crews. Racing will begin at 9 a.m. on Dexter Lake with temperatures expected to be around 52 degrees.
