Men's Golf Set For Alister MacKenzie Invitational
Oct. 15, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's golf team will travel to Fairfax, Calif., to compete in its third tournament of the season, the 16-team Alister MacKenzie Invitational, on Monday and Tuesday. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-71, 6,708-yard Meadow Club with 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. There will be an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start on Monday and tee times will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Five players will play per team with the four lowest scores counting toward the team score. "In our first two events this year, we have struggled to get off to a quick start," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "I think the fact that a few of our guys have played the Meadow Club and Jonnie (Motomochi) had success there last season will help. Having been to a tournament for many years and having experience on the course is always a good thing." Teams in the field include: Oregon State, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Penn State, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, UC Davis, UC Irvine and Wisconsin. The Beavers finished sixth at the 14-team Husky Invitational Sept., 20-21, at the Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Wash and fourth at the 12-team Cabo Collegiate, Oct. 2-4, at the Querencia Los Cabos Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Oregon State will go with its same lineup of juniors Morten Madsen, Alex Moore and Jonnie Motomochi, sophomore Nick Sherwood and freshman David Fink. "Individually, I don't think we have had anyone really play they can for all three rounds," Reehoorn said. "I'm still waiting for Alex and Morten to play up to their potential for 54 holes. If we can get 54 great hols from each of them, this team has the ability to turn some heads."
California is the returning champion after carding a 23-under 545 in 36 holes, which was shorteded last year due to inclement weather. The Golden Bears, who are serving as hosts of the tournament, have won four of the past seven Alister MacKenzie Invitationals. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available at golfstatresults.com and a link will also be on the California Golden Bears website.
