No. 8 Beavers set for prestigious Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges
Oct. 15, 2009
The No. 8 Oregon State men's golf team is set to take on some of the top teams in the country this weekend at the prestigious Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges hosted by East Tennessee State.
The field for this year's event includes 10 teams currently ranked in the nation's Top 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin. That group includes No. 2 Tennessee, No. 8 Oregon State, No. 12 North Carolina State and No. 25 Auburn.
"This will be a great field with a lot of east coast teams," head coach Brian Watts said. "We're looking forward to competing against schools from the ACC and SEC and representing what Oregon State is about."
The tournament will be played at The Ridges Country Club, a 6,732-yard, par-72 course at Jonesborough, Tenn. It is a 54-hole tournament consisting of three 18-hole rounds with one being played each day.
"The success we've experienced in the last couple years has led to this opportunity to play in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country," Watts said. "With nationals at Tennessee, we'll have the opportunity to play on similar grasses and against a lot of teams that will be at nationals later this year."
"I'm very excited for our guys to play this tournament," Watts said. "I want to give our players the opportunity to compete against the best."
The Beavers, who are coming off of a weather-shortened fourth place finish at California's Alister MacKenzie Intercollegiate, are ranked No. 8 in the nation in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and are No. 13 according to Golfstat and are No. 21 in the country this week according Golfworld.
Live scoring throughout the tournament is available at golfstat.com.
