Men's Golf Travels To Mexico For Cabo Collegiate This Weekend
Sept. 30, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's golf team will play its second tournament of the season at the Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Saturday through Monday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at Golf Digest's top rated course in Mexico, Querencia Los Cabos Golf Club, a 7,070-yard, par 72 layout that includes nine teams that were ranked among GolfWeek's Top 100 a year ago. "The field will not be as strong as the Husky Invitational," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "But who we beat and where we finish shouldn't always be the focus. We need to get there, prepare well and take care of business." Teams in the field include: Oregon State, Santa Clara, Arkansas, Lamar, SMU, UC-Irvine, Saint Mary's College, Pacific, UT- Arlington, Houston, Boise State and Cal State Northridge. Oregon State will go with the same five who played at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational, which includes juniors Morten Madsen, Alex Moore and Jonnie Motomochi, sophomore Nick Sherwood and freshman David Fink. The Beavers finished sixth in the 14-team Husky Invitational field Sept. 20-21 at the Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Wash. Motomochi had two rounds under par to lead Oregon State and finish tied for 14th overall. Moore bounced back from a tough opening round with two subpar rounds for a tie for 20th. "My expectations are simple," Reehoorn said. "We need to get better every day. We need to compete. And we need to put ourselves in position to win with nine holes to play. Our players know this is a business trip. At the same time this is an opportunity I want to make sure the guys make the most of and enjoy the trip. It's trips like these that make the experience as a college golfer more memorable." Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available at golfstatresults.com.
