Several Oregon State Men's Golfers Playing Well At PNGA Amateur

BEND, Ore. - Nick Sherwood and transfer Matt Rawitzer are tied for second and David Fink is fourth after the first round at the 110th Pacific Northwest Men's Amateur Championship conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) to lead eight current Oregon State men's golfers competing in the prestigious event. Sherwood and Rawitzer each fired a 3-under 69 and Fink shot a 2-under 70 on Monday during the first 18 holes of the stroke play qualifying at the par-72, 7,298-yard Tetherow Golf Club. The final 18 holes of stroke play qualifying will be played on Tuesday and the field will then be cut to the low 64 players who will advance to single-elimination match play that begins on Wednesday. Alex Moore shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for 12th, incoming freshman Scott Kim is tied for 31st after a 3-over 75, transfer Nick Chianello had a 4-over 76 and is tied for 35th, Casey King is tied for 46th with a 5-over 77 and Jeff Petroff shot a 9-over 81 and is tied for 97th to show the depth of the Beavers 2011-12 men's golf roster. After the 151-player field is cut down after Tuesday's round, the round of 64 will be played on Wednesday, with the rounds of 32 and 16 on Thursday, the quarterfinals and semifinals on Friday and the 36-hole championship field on Saturday.
