Simpson, Williams Earn All-Academic Honors

WALLNUT CREEK, Calif. – Men’s golf co-captains Alex Williams and Tyler Simpson were named to the 2009 Pac-10 Conference All-Academic first team it was announced Thursday by Commissioner Tom Hansen. To be eligible for the selection to an academic team a golfer must be a starter or significant contributor and have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. Williams, a senior from Vancouver, Wash. majoring in history, was selected to the All-Academic first team with a 3.65 GPA. The selection marks the third straight year that he has been named to the first team, every year that he has been eligible. Williams completed his senior campaign having competed in 11 out of the teams 12 tournaments this season. He finished with a 74.50 scoring average. Simpson, a junior from Portland, Ore. majoring in construction engineering management, was selected for the second time to the All-Academic first team with a 3.70 GPA. He participated in five tournaments this year for Oregon State and finished with a 76.60 scoring average. Junior Diego Velasquez, a junior from Bogota, Columbia majoring in liberal studies, was named as an honorable mention.
