Meet The Beavers: Nick Sherwood
March 4, 2012
When both of your parents attended Oregon State and your dad hit one of the biggest shots in Beavers' basketball history, there's a pretty good chance you're going to grow up wanting to follow in their footsteps. That's definitely the case for Nick Sherwood, although he's making golf shots for the Beavers instead of basketball shots.
Sherwood was born in Corvallis and grew up just down the road in Albany with a close family that included his parents, Bill and Lynn, and brothers, Chad and Nate.
"I'm a hometown boy," Sherwood said. "Both of my parents went here to Oregon State. My dad played basketball here and it's been a long family tradition of being a true Beaver throughout my whole life. It's great to be a part of Beaver athletics."
Bill Sherwood starred for two seasons for the Beavers and hit the game-winning shot, a three-pointer with one second left, to beat Oregon in the 1987 Civil War at MacArthur Court in Eugene in one of the greatest comebacks in Oregon State history.
Nick Sherwood is making his own mark as an Oregon State student-athlete as he's enjoying a solid junior campaign that has included his second career top-10 finish after firing a career-best 6-under 66 in the final round of The Prestige at PGA West. He has competed in every tournament this season for the Beavers, is third on the team with a 71.92 scoring average and is as proud as anyone that he's wearing the orange and black and competing for Oregon State.
