From The Strip -- Day 1
Dec. 18, 2009GALLERY
Corvallis, Ore. - The Beavers have landed in Las Vegas, at least half of the travel party. The actual team arrives at about 7 p.m., as the first wave included equipment personnel, athletic trainers and administrators.
The first job on the trip is "all hands on deck" to help unload the baggage truck that arrived with the luggage, including the team's bags. It's not a glamorous job, but one that needs to be done, and one that the regular travel party is used to in bowl games - nine bowl trips out of the last 11 seasons in case you wondered. The weather is terrific - high 50s to low 60s and bright sunshine. There is a dusting of snow, however, on the peaks of the nearby Spring Mountains.
Not a lot of news coming out of Vegas today as the city gets ready to host the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas. The matchup between two ranked teams is the first in the 18-year MAACO Bowl Las Vegas history.
It looks like the Holidays on the Strip with numerous billboards advertising Christmas and New Year's Eve activities. One hotel is offering a Dec. 31 rate of $400.
We will have a full rundown of the happenings of the Beaver football team tomorrow as the final practices for the game resume at UNLV's Rebel Park. Practices are open to the public, beginning at 11:30 a.m., but please refrain from using your cell phones during the drills.
Remember, even if you can't be here in person, you can support the Bowl, the Beavers and local Las Vegas charities by donating tickets.
Remember to check out Beaver Nation Online and KEZI tonight for the start of video updates from Las Vegas.
