Audibles -- The Tight Ends

Corvallis, Ore. - It's a group that probably gets the least notoriety on the offense, but it also has been a roster of key cogs in the Beavers' turnaround from 3-9 to 9-3 for the 2012 season. Assistant Head Coach Jay Locey has led the tight ends and H-Backs to a successful season as run blockers, pass protectors and as weapons in the passing game. Senior Colby Prince is the only loss to what will be veteran positions for the 2013 season. Prince, however is a significant departure, having started 23 total games (21 straight) entering his final game of his collegiate career. Sophomore Connor Hamlett will be among the top tight ends in the league next season and has 27 receptions for 333 yards and three touchdowns this year, including the game-winning grab at Arizona. True freshman Caleb Smith made great strides in his first season and sophomore Tyler Perry and redshirt-freshman Kellen Clute are solid contributors after dealing with early career injuries. The OSU video team put together the following feature of the tight ends/H-backs with interviews with several players and Coach Locey. What is your most embarrassing moment on the football field? Colby Prince: “Terron Ward busted a run against Cal I think, I turned around to look for him and I tripped over my own feet.” Connor Hamlett: “I dropped three fade passes in a row in high school. Pretty embarrassing.” Kellen Clute: “Dropping a game-tying touchdown in my rivalry game in high school. Had it right on my hands.” Dustin Stanton: “Probably missing a cut block out in the open.” Tyler Perry: “I dropped a game winning touchdown during the rivalry game, my junior year of high school, so that was pretty embarrassing.” Caleb Smith: “I tripped and fell into a goal post at a practice in high school one time, which was pretty embarrassing.”

What was the best vacation you ever took? Colby Prince: “Four-wheeling trip with my dad, brother and brother-in-law in eastern Oregon.” Connor Hamlett: “Hawaii with my family and friends.” Kellen Clute: “Mexico four years ago.” Dustin Stanton: “Maui” Tyler Perry: “To Mexico on Easter a couple years ago.
