Oregon State’s freshmen defensive end Scott Crichton has been nominated for the Defensive Performance of the Year, Intersport announced today. The Defensive Performance of the Year is part of a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season. The winners will be revealed during the two hour All-Star Football Challenge special airing at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 3 on ESPN2. In addition to recognizing the season’s top performances, the All-Star Football Challenge will feature college football’s biggest stars in a live skills challenge. In the 13-year history of the event, 41 first-round NFL draft picks have participated in the All-Star Football Challenge.

From now until the end of Bowl season, the two top defensive players of the week will be featured on the All-Star Football Challenge Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AllStarFootball), along with two top individual performers among quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. The top weekly vote-getter will proceed to the finals, which run Jan. 16-22.

Crichton recorded five total tackles, two sacks and a key fourth quarter forced fumble in Oregon State’s 38-21 victory over Washington Nov. 19. The true-freshman made a tremendous impact on the game and is a sign of good things to come in Corvallis.

The other week eleven nominee for Defensive Performance of the Year is Kentucky’s Danny Trevathan. Trevathan tallied 17 tackles and forced 2 fumbles, but his team fell short to Georgia, losing 19-10.

At the other positions, week eleven nominees include Louisiana Tech’s Colby Cameron and Iowa State’s Jared Barnett at quarterback, Baylor’s Kendall Wright and USC’s Marqise Lee at receiver, and Utah State’s Robert Turbin and Rutgers’ Jawan Jamison at running back. To learn more about any of these incredible performances and to vote for any of the nominated players, visit www.Facebook.com/AllStarFootball. Fans can vote as often as they would like in each category and can share their vote with Facebook friends. Week eleven voting opened today and ends on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 9:59 a.m. ET.

The All-Star Football Challenge features the top college football players competing in a series of skills competitions that put their individual talents on display. Past participants include Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Santana Moss, Vince Young, Vernon Davis, Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James, and many others.
