DAY 16 - Kjos, Offense Look Sharp
Aug. 25, 2009
After going through a couple days of practice in which the defense outperformed the offense, today the guys in the white jerseys were back to making plays.
Junior slotback Casey Kjos had a great day finding open zones downfield all afternoon. On one play in particular, he made a great falling catch on ball that passed just out of the reach of Cameron Collins. A little later in a red zone session Kjos went horizontal going to his right to snare another Sean Canfield pass, this time for a touchdown. Kjos grabbed at least two other touchdowns during the drill showing promise as red zone target with a knack for getting open and presenting a big target.
Also during red zone drills Micah Hatfield got a little separation from Jordan Poyer for a touchdown, and a little later Taylor Kavanaugh ran a crossing route through the end zone to beat Rashaad Reynolds for a score. H-Back John Reese scored twice in a short span making a nice grab and stutter-step in the back corner of the end zone on the first.
Freshman walk-on Devon Kell, who has been going through his acclimatization process, donned his shell for the first time joining the tight ends during drills and looks like he could be an athletic target in the future.
Fans should check out Beaver Nation Online. Currently featured on BNO is the intro video for the football team that will be played on the Dam Cam ... it’s pretty intense!

MEDIA STUFF There was a larger than usual media gathering at Valley Football Center and Prothro Field today. Paul Buker and Molly Blue of The Oregonian, Bob Clark of the Register-Guard, Gary Horowitz (still on crutches) of the Statesman Journal, Cliff Kirkpatrick of the Gazette-Times, Mike Parker of JOE RADIO and Ron Callan of KPAM 860. In addition, Brian Elder from KVAL-TV and Tim Becker from KOIN-TV were at practice ... Kirkpatrick was working on a special teams story, Clark delved into the back up running back situation and Horowitz spoke with an amazing 12 players today today ... The GT’s Kevin Hampton has a story with the results of Kevin Frahm and Taylor Kavanaugh’s summer Read-a-Thon ... Clark wrote about middle linebacker David Pa’aluhi in the RG.
SIDELINE VIEWS Jordan Bishop gets credit for the Catch of the Day. Bishop reached high in the end zone to catch a touchdown around the swatting arms of Suaesi Tuimaunei in a red zone drill. Bishop and the rest of the receivers were seen just yesterday working on a similar drill reach around the goal post to catch balls ... As has become the normal routine, several players were out of practice today. Howard Croom (dinged), Markus Wheaton and Zane Norris remained out of practice. Brandon Hardin (leg) and Kameron Krebs were new to the sideline routine and Damola Adeniji (hip) was limited ... Tailback Jovan Stevenson (Achilles) returned to practice today ... Keynan Parker (shoulder), Timi Oshinowo (knee) and Ryan McCants remain out but spent time running on the side.
Tomorrow is the Beavers’ final double day with the first practice scheduled for 8:30 a.m. (pads) and the second is set of 6:30 p.m. (shells).
