Another Preseason Honor for Jordan Poyer
Aug. 2, 2012
Corvallis, Ore. - Senior cornerback Jordan Poyer continues to accumulate preseason honors and Thursday added the Paul Hornung Award watch list to his resume. The Hornung Award is presented annually to the nation’s most versatile player in major college football. The senior co-captain from Astoria, Ore., is already a candidate for the prestigious Lott Trophy (top impact defensive player), the Bednarik Award (top defensive player), the Nagurski Award (top defensive player), the Thorpe Award (top defensive back) and is a member of the College Football Performance Awards preseason honors list. Mel Kiper Jr., of ESPN ranks him as the second-best senior cornerback in the country. Poyer was a Pac-12 Conference Second Team selection last season on defense after making 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions. In addition, he averaged 14.1 yards per punt return last year and set a Reser Stadium record with an 85-yard return for a touchdown against UCLA. He also averaged 22.7 yards on 30 kickoff returns. The Beavers open the 2012 season Sept. 1 vs. Nicholls State at Reser Stadium, before Big Ten Conference foe Wisconsin visits Sept. 8.
