Corvallis, Ore. -
Heisman Trophy candidate running back Jacquizz Rodgers, his brother wide receiver James Rodgers and defensive tackle Stephen Paea have been selected to the Phil Steele’s 2010 College Football Preview Pac-10 Conference First Team. Jacquizz and Paea have also landed on the publication’s preseason All-America second team squad while James is on the third team.
Jacquizz Rodgers was the 2008 Pac-10 Offensive MVP and was a semifinalist last year for the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year. He enters the season with 2,693 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns on the ground, fourth among active Football Bowl Subdivision players.
James (check out this video clip) is a 2010 candidate for the Biletnikoff Award, presented annually to the nation’s top receiver. The team co-captain is second in the nation among active players for all-purpose yards with 5,077 and broke the OSU record for receptions last season with 91. He was a first team All-Pac-10 selection last year.
Paea, a co-team captain, is a preseason candidate for the Lombardi Award and Lott Trophy. He was the co-recipient of the Morris Trophy last season as the league’s top defensive lineman and enters the year with 84 career tackles. The frequently double-teamed Paea is one of the strongest players in the history of the program.
Oregon State returns to the practice field Aug. 9 in preparation for the 2010 season, which opens Sept. 4 vs. TCU at Cowboys Stadium on ESPN.
